Medium’s Meta Mayhem
Let’s cut the crap people. Scrolling through Medium have you noticed? The big bucks in writing are about…well, writing? It’s like a damn pyramid scheme. Not just on Medium, but everywhere! The internet is full of online business gurus who’ve probably never sold a thing except for how-to guides. The waters are muddied, folks. I’m just saying…WAKE UP PEOPLE!
Everyone is an expert these days. Or, so they think. Here’s my beef - not with Medium itself, but with what content on the web is becoming. Nevertheless, today, I am specifically picking on Medium content. I haven’t been on this platform long, but some things are starting to rub me the wrong way.
What happened to writing because you’ve got something to say?
Writing has become this naval-gazing contest where everyone’s talking about how to write instead of just writing something compelling. Me? I’m here for the raw, the real, the messy heart of ideas and emotions. But what do we get? An endless loop of writing about writing well. I’m calling bullshit. It seems like a rat race for easy money, not a hunt for compelling content.
I’ve even heard some say that making mistakes in your writing makes you sound less like AI. As if poor grammar makes you authentic. Are you kidding me? Screw that!
Words are my tools, people. And if they are too big for your britches, that isn’t my problem. Look it up. I take pride in finding the perfect word, and I won’t apologize for it.
Trust me. I get it. Showing is valuable. But let’s be honest: I’ve got your attention for just 5 to 10 minutes, tops. I can’t show you everything. That shit takes time. And your time is valuable. Whelp, at least to me it is.
I think we may have forgotten that AI mimics us, not the other way around. It’s a reflection of our writing, not something that inherently guides or dictates how we should write.
It’s about time we got back to writing’s guts - the ideas, the perspectives, the essence of the human experience. Let’s pop this meta bubble and put a premium on creativity, message, and authenticity. Let’s celebrate the writers who spin gold from their brains! Over and out.
